Elliot Faber and Tiffany Ung tie the knot at sea

-

Elliot Faber and Tiffany Ung decided that their wedding could not wait any longer. “I had the ring, so I just did it,” says Faber of his decision to propose to Ung on The Peak in April 2020. “It was my way of saying Covid-19 can’t get in the way of true love.”

Though social distancing regulations delayed their ceremony several times, the pair finally tied the knot on February 21 in an intimate ceremony aboard a private yacht. Faber, the founder of Sake Central, and Ung exchanged vows at sea, with family and friends tuning in via video call. After that, a group of close friends came on board in Central for an afternoon celebration.

On a postcard-perfect afternoon, the yacht sailed to Sai Kung, dropping anchor in a bay at sunset.

While docked, Matt Abergel, chef and co-owner of Yardbird Hong Kong and Ronin, and actor Carl Ng took advantage of the picturesque moment, changing out of their suits and jumping into the water before the party made its way to Sai Kung for a reception at a friend’s home.

There, Alex Fargas of La Paloma catered the event, with his team making an enormous pan of paella that took up a significant portion of the backyard. Guests included a who’s who of Hong Kong’s F&B industry, with the likes of Tom Andrews of Basehall, Ryan Nightingale of Shady Acres and Faber’s team from Sake Central in attendance.

The couple freshened

up before appearing for their first dance to the tune of Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts.

“It was the best day of our lives,” says Ung. “The weather was perfect. The sky was blue and the sun was shining.” Faber wore a suit by The Armoury, and Ung wore a stunning sleeveless white gown with a long, lace train by local wedding dress designer Rania Hatoum.

Prior to the wedding, they embarked on a yearlong body transformation. “My health was taking a toll, from gaining weight to gout, and I finally threw out my back, which was the icing on the cake,” says Faber, who says he lost 17kg during their time training at Hybrid Gym. In the end, says Ung, the pair wed at their happiest and in the best shapes of their lives.

The couple also used their big day to launch an initiative called Kanpai to Love, setting up a dedicated website to sell a selection of sake bottles, with 100 per cent of the profits going towards providing free Covid-19 testing and meals for members of Hong Kong’s struggling F&B community. An anonymous donor also pledged to match the donations.
