Local artist Bo Law—whose work has been exhibited at the Hong Kong Museum of Art and leading international events such as the Setouchi Triennale—vividly remembers the lion dances he watched as a child. But as he’s grown older, he’s learnt to appreciate not only the joy these traditional performances bring to audiences, but also the importance of this ritual to performers. “The movements of lion dances can improve dancers’ physical and mental health, and improve teamwork through arduous training,” says Law. “I think this is the biggest reason why so many people still participate in this ancient activity.”
