Alphabet City
M IS FOR: MID-LEVELS ESCALATOR
The Mid-levels Escalator—which is used by nearly 80,000 people per day—snakes past a variety of attractions, such as the Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts and some of the city’s best bars, including The Diplomat and Penicillin. But illustrator Stella So’s favourite pitstop is somewhere a little more traditional: Good Spring Company, a tea and herbal medicine store on Cochrane Street that first opened in Central in 1916. So always orders Five Flower Tea, which in Traditional Chinese Medicine is said to aid digestion, soothe sore throats and be especially hydrating—perfect for a hot summer day.
Alphabet City is a series in 26 parts. Each month, Tatler invites an artist to create a work that celebrates the best of Hong Kong, from A to Z
