Cricketer Kevin Pietersen explains how the new Hublot Big Bang Unico Sorai helps save rhinoceroses that are threatened with extinction

-

A portion of the proceeds of the new Hublot Big Bang Unico Sorai will be donated to Care for Wild, a rhino sanctuary that’s supported by your non-profit Sorai (Save Our Rhino Africa India). What do you love about this new watch?

I love that it’s completely different to the first Big Bang Unico Sorai, which Hublot and I designed in 2019 to celebrate the white rhino in winter. This time we are celebrating the black rhino, and the new watch is green to celebrate summer. It celebrates rainfall and a new lease of life.

Which watch do you wear every day?

The Hublot Big Bang E.

I love how the dial has so many different faces. This watch tracks my heart rate, my steps and all sorts of other things. I’m really active so I like to see these results at the end of each day. When I go out in the evening, I swap the Big Bang E for the first limited-edition Big Bang Unico Sorai from 2019.

What’s your most memorable memory with a rhino?

I’m lucky enough to have some amazing memories with rhinos, but one in particular is meeting a baby rhino, Arthur, who had been shot and was recovering at Care for Wild. My family and I had the most fabulous couple of hours playing with, cuddling and feeding Arthur. My children loved it.

How can we help save rhinos? You can bang the drum about the illegal wildlife trade. There are some really amazing people out there who hate seeing animals hurt and who need to understand that rhino poaching happens on a daily basis and it’s brutal.

I really believe that if we come together, we can stop the illegal wildlife trade.
