BIG THINGS

-

are coming for Christie’s: the auction house has announced its plans to officially move its headquarters to The Henderson, the Henderson Land Group’s newest flagship property, set to open in 2024. Christie’s 50,000 sq ft space will span four storeys in the complex, which was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.

With 39 per cent of Christie’s sales this year coming from Asia, it made sense to upgrade. Most excited by the news was Elaine Kwok, Christie’s director of 20th and 21st century art, Asia Pacific, who said, “Christie’s move to The Henderson will be truly transformative. No longer will we be constrained by exhibition schedules at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. We have always dreamt of having a larger, more flexible space, where we can invite people ‘home’. Now this dream is one step closer to reality.” Comparable to the size of Christie’s headquarters in London, the new HQ will be the primary location for year-round sales and exhibitions. We can hear the gavels banging already.
