NICOLAS AGUZIN
CEO, HONG KONG EXCHANGES AND CLEARING
Nicolas Aguzin, a 30-year veteran of JP Morgan, was tapped to lead the world’s most valuable bourse operator as the first non-chinese CEO of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX), beginning this May. Aguzin has lived in Hong Kong for the last decade and was most recently CEO of JP Morgan’s International Private Bank.
“I’ve been asked many times what attracted me to HKEX, and quite simply I think this business is perfectly placed— right spot, right time—to capitalise on a super-exciting new chapter ahead,” Aguzin says. “We are at the heart of the most international city in China, and the most Chinese city outside of mainland China.”
As CEO of JP Morgan, Asia Pacific from 2013 to 2020, Aguzin presided over some of its major expansion efforts, including its establishment in China as one of the few international financial institutions with a full range of services.
“I am as excited about what lies ahead for Hong Kong as I was when I first came to work in this fantastic city nearly a decade ago,” he says. “It is a place of great adaptability and great dynamism, and throughout history it has always flexed and morphed to embrace change. It is a true city of reinvention and I am looking forward to playing my role in shaping the path ahead.”
