Breitling became the first Swiss wristwatch in space when its Navitimer was worn by astronaut Scott Carpenter in May 1962, as he orbited Earth three times on the Mercury-atlas 7 mission. Carpenter had requested the 24-hour dial to differentiate day from night while on the mission. On the 60th anniversary of this voyage, Breitling has released a modern version in a limited edition of 362 pieces. The Navitimer Cosmonaute includes modern additions such as a platinum bezel and an open sapphire crystal caseback showcasing the B02 movement, which features special engravings on the bridge to mark the occasion.
