HSBC MAIN BUILDING COIN BANK (2001-2007)
From 2001 to 2007, HSBC produced a plastic coin bank modelled on its Hong Kong headquarters. The building itself was designed by British architect Norman Foster, who was given the brief to create “the best bank building in the world”. It was completed in 1986 and immediately became a landmark of the high-tech architecture movement because much of the 44-storey tower was prefabricated in other countries, then shipped to Hong Kong and assembled on site, a building technique that was then in its infancy. The project was Foster’s first outside the UK and helped propel him to international fame.
