Carrying the Weight of Culture and Aesthetics

Unveiling the essence of the Christine’s Garden collection by Christine Dai

-

When it comes to jewellery that doubles as wearable art, Christine Dai should be front of every connoisseur’s mind. Since her jewellery debut just two years ago, the designer has become known as a rising star in the industry. The jewellery artist combines a timehonoured wax carving technique from 18th-century Europe with antique rose-cutting methods to create intricate, sculptured pieces with timeless charm. During Art Basel in March, the seasoned designer and her eponymous brand contributed to the highly anticipated Children’s Ball with an auction donation of the Phantom Butterfly from her Magnificent Butterfly collection.

Drawing inspiration from both traditional and contemporary art, Christine Dai designs are a bridge across eras, capturing the sentiment of gemstones in profound works of art. Each piece she creates pulsates with unique vitality and artistic spirituality: these are not just pieces of jewellery but collectable artworks, carrying the weight of history and culture.

Dai has a talent for fusing together unexpected juxtapositions of contrasts—in her nuanced metallic textures, a kaleidoscope of gemstone hues and the meticulous intricacies of the settings. Her Master of Impressionism collection featured at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, on actress and model Karena Ng. Renowned actress

Rosamund Kwan also donned pieces from the Magnificent Butterfly collection at the opening of the eponymous exhibition, at the prestigious Musée des Arts Décoratifs, in Paris.

Her latest collection, Christine’s Garden, is the perfect representation of the designer’s spirit and ethos. The range is a poetic ode to renowned Italian Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli’s painting Primavera (“Spring”). The artwork famously celebrates the season of renewal through nine mythological figures in an orange grove. The collection is a celebration of vitality, intertwining the realms of mythology, distant lands and the eternal beauty of nature. Like the goddess Venus, it moves forward

gradually, with each piece creating a floral showcase within the intricate world of jewellery.

Christine’s Garden transcends temporal constraints and the traditional challenges of jewellery making, with designs that encapsulate the essence of the dynamic seasons. The muses from Primavera are evident throughout the collection. Precious gemstones, encapsulating the essence of brilliant blooms, are transformed into timeless heirlooms.

With hues reminiscent of oil paintings and textures echoing the grace of sculptures, Christine’s Garden becomes an exploration of timeless and thriving beauty. Akin to breathtaking paintings such as Primavera, these masterpieces capture and transport the imagination.

As a collective, Christine’s Garden is a celebration of precious jewellery that fuses craftsmanship and artistry with spring’s vitality and brilliance. It is a collection worthy of being passed down through the generations as cherished, wearable pieces of art that reflect Dai’s ultimate pursuit of jewellery art form.
