SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED
As part of Jaquet Droz’s 280th anniversary collection, the house unveils the Signing Machine
Several centuries ago, Swiss watchmaker Pierre Jaquet Droz made a name for himself through his artisanship in machines and automata. Among his most notable designs is a 6,000-piece mechanical piece named “The Writer”, which is designed to write with a quill on paper via some input keys and a form of programmable memory that predated Charles Babbage’s computer.
Fast forward to 2018, the Swiss house debuts the Signing Machine. Its design is almost like a pocket version of The Writer, except that it can be personalised to scribble a specific signature. The miniature automaton has a four-digit security code, and once activated, the machine is capable of carrying out perfect and consistent signatures with the help of an arm-and-pen mechanism.
Housed in a polished handengraved red gold or blackened hardwood case, the portable device also comes with its own leather pouch, which comes in handy when time comes to sign off on your next big deal.
