THE PENULTIMATE: GIVING BACK
For almost a century, The Peninsula Hotels has been more than a global leader in luxury hospitality; the hotels have also been cherished second homes for guests, employees, and the larger communities in which they are located. As people around the world gradually ease back into their favourite routines, The Peninsula Hotels continues to extend a warm invitation to residents of its home cities, with its ‘We Meet Again' campaign, a major part of which involves supporting people in need.
The initiative was first launched at The Peninsula Hong Kong with a “one-for-one” charitable meal donation programme to assist the city's homeless people. For any meal purchase at The Peninsula Hong Kong's restaurants, the hotel donates one meal to the city's needy through a partnership with Impact HK, a leading, local non-profit organisation that focuses on taking care of those in need.
As part of initiatives supporting the local community at The Peninsula Tokyo, guests have the opportunity to take part in the preparation and packaging of meals for distribution to Tokyo's needy through partnerships with two local charities, Hands On Tokyo and Second Harvest Japan.
At The Peninsula Bangkok, for any lunch set menu purchased at The River Café and Terrace or The Lobby, the hotel makes a onefor-one meal donation to those in need through a partnership with the Khlong Sarn community to support the local Wat Thong Plaeng School and the wider community in the district. Khlong Sarn has a long history of being an artistic destination on the Thonburi side of Bangkok, and is now an old town and conservation area. It is also a neighbourhood of schools, hospitals and ancient temples. However, given that the district is only a secondary tourist attraction, the community is in need of support due to the lack of resources during the pandemic.
The Peninsula Beijing is also making one-for-one meal donations to communities in need through a partnership with the RenAi Foundation, which distributes congee meals to elderly residents in the Wangfujing district of Beijing where the hotel is located.
Stateside at The Peninsula Chicago, for meals purchased at the Shanghai Terrace and The Lobby restaurants, the hotel is supporting The Greater Chicago Food Depository, part of Feeding America national organisation through its one-for-one meal donations.
“Caring for our community has always been a priority at the heart of our hotel. Especially during these challenging times, we continue to express love and support for the people of Chicago who are most in need,” says Maria Zec, Regional Vice President and General Manager of The Peninsula Chicago.
