FROM THE CEO
Welcome to the Summer 2021 issue of The Peninsula Magazine.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of The Peninsula Chicago, our third North American property which opened in 2001. Following its opening, The Peninsula Chicago achieved the coveted Mobil Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond awards and the hotel has continued to receive these awards every year since, as well as many other prestigious accolades. This is a true testament to the hotel's status both nationally and internationally, and it is our continuing aim to provide our guests with a unique combination of Far Eastern graciousness together with Midwestern hospitality. In this issue, we look back over the hotel's two decades of success, as well as delving into its association with the arts.
Also in the world of art and culture, we take you on a tour of The Broad museum in Los Angeles, home of The Peninsula Beverly Hills. Founded in 2015 by philanthropists Eli and Edye Broad, this remarkable museum recently reopened to the public, with new, free exhibitions and in-depth installations. The Broad is home to 2,000 outstanding pieces of postwar and contemporary works of art, which comprise two of the world's leading collections in their genre, attracting an average of more than 900,000 visitors a year.
Back in our home city of Hong Kong, we are delighted to have recently unveiled a brand new concept in the newly-renovated Peninsula Arcade. We have combined our Peninsula Boutique with a stunning new Peninsula Café, alongside an elegant Assouline bookstore. The Peninsula Boutique & Café adds a new, contemporary dimension to the hotel's iconic heritage and I very much look forward to welcoming guests and visitors to spend time in this enticing and luxurious space.
Also in Hong Kong, The Peninsula is currently partnering with one of the most prolific British automobile marques, Aston Martin, on a number of initiatives, including the charitable auction of a limited edition Aston Martin Gulf Blue Vantage Heritage Edition roadster, which was on display in the hotel's famed Lobby for a period of one month prior to being sold by international auction house Bonhams. Proceeds from the auction are being utilised to fund projects for the protection of endangered species and the restoration of the ecosystem in Hong Kong by supporting a range of programmes run by Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden under the guidance of Auction4Wildlife.
I invite you to discover all this and more in the following pages, and as always, I hope you will enjoy the read. We very much hope to welcome you back to our properties, as soon as conditions allow, depending on the Covid situation in our various locations.
