Feliz Día de la Independencia Costa Rica!

Toasting Two Centuries of Promise and Progress

-

Congratulations, Costa Rica! September 15th is never like any other day of the year in this country, nor are Ticos looking forward to it any less in 2021. Quite the contrary. In the same spirit that makes Independence Day a favorite annual celebration from coast to coast, extra measures of enthusiasm will enliven this year's bicentennial anniversary of Costa Rica's secession from Spain, alongside its four nearest northern neighbors: Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.

Interestingly, while subsequent autonomy for each of these Central American countries followed at different times, no separate “birthday” traditions are honored. All five nations have continued to commemorate the same date when their colonial ties were officially severed together: September

15, 1821. Because news traveled much more slowly in those days, and with Costa Rica being the southernmost distant land, it took another month for word to reach here from Guatemala.

On this proud and happy occasion, Howler extended an opportunity for other well-wishers to join us in toasting Costa Rica's legacy of promise and progress.

When someone says “I hope I can find a place to call home where I can be comfortable with my surroundings, the people I come in contact with every day and a place I can’t wait to return to when I go away” they are hoping to find our paradise - Costa Rica. Almost everyone who comes to visit needs to be pushed out the door to return home. There is peace and quiet on one side and action/adventure on the other. The locals(Ticas/Ticos)are always there to please their guests. “Try it and you will love it” is an understatement.
