Bi-Centennial ANNIVERSARY
With great pride and gratitude, CINDE celebrates 200 years of Costa Rican independence. We are proud that our country has exceeded our expectations and now shines internationally for various reasons. Therefore, our value proposition revolves around three pillars: People, Planet and Prosperity.
When we talk about People, we refer to our human talent: Costa Rica stands out as the top country in Latin America for human capital, according to the Global Competitiveness Report of the World Economic Forum. That has enabled Costa Rica to transform various areas, including our economic model, to the extent that, today, the medtech and knowledge services sectors lead the country’s exports. That reflects our Prosperity pillar.
When it comes to Planet, this is another pillar to be proud of: 6% of the world’s biodiversity resides in Costa Rica. The country also promotes environmental awareness and sustainability, and plans to be carbon neutral by 2050.
We are beings of continuous improvement and, as a country, we are constantly at work. Our past demonstrates that Costa Rica can overcome challenges, with the pandemic being a recent example. Costa Rica has shown resilience and the ability to maintain business continuity, despite shutdowns and the many changes brought by virtual work modalities. That served as further evidence to inspire multinationals to continue trusting in our country. Today, more than 350 companies prove this under the management and support of our organization.
Our confidence is rooted in decades of work. Between 1998 and 2018, Costa Rica grew at a rate of 2.6%, thanks to the foreign direct investment that — if it had not been present — would have halved the country’s growth rate. Intel’s entry to Costa Rica sent a powerful message to the world, paving the way for many other multinationals from various sectors. In turn, these companies under the Free Trade Zone Regime boost the country’s productivity levels.
At CINDE, we believe that Costa Rica offers fertile ground to reap even more successes, more human talent that contributes to global development, and more pride in our positioning as a strategic destination to invest with purpose.
