It is important to highlight that nearly 80 percent of the regional trade operations flows through maritime ways. That is the reason why Central America is witnessing improvements in the maritime logistics sector. The countries in the area have made public and private investments in a bid to attract more shipping companies, more trade operations and more economic growth. However, there are several challenges on the way: for port authorities, customs, shipping companies, logistic operators, exporters and importers. According to specialists, the key is to provide competitive fares, infrastructure, communication among all sectors and controls.
