HEALY SILVERTONE D-CUBA, THE UNTOLD HISTORY
Manolo Brenes is the grandfather of one of my son’s friends and classmates. He is an excellent mechanic, specialized in the restoration of British vintage cars, with emphasis on MG and Triumph, and he first saw this Healy Silverstone back in the 1960s, since a neighbor and colleague –Mr. Ricardo Medel– used to repair it. The car was brought from the United States to Cuba by Dr. Iglesias, who later sold it to an aviation technician. It was later acquired by Mrs. Julia Medina. It was present in several races, always showing number 7. There are reports of a 6th position won in the 1958 Pinar del Rio-Havana Race. The car’s owner, Mrs. Julia Medina, drove it to the Excelencias del Motor Show held back in July. It caught everybody’s eyes, who were aware of the privilege of standing in front of the only model of its kind on the Americas. This is a true car heritage representative in Cuba, and Excelencias is proud of contributing to this condition.
