Steering wheels have gone through a long modification process, along with cars, always giving priority to such elements as ergonomics, comfort and safety for drivers; all the way up to what we presently know as multifunctional steering wheels. The “first steering wheels” were wooden levers or handles. The circular steering wheel was introduced in the 20th century. The development of electronics and telematics in cars brought about more elements that could be controlled by drivers, but their concentration should not be affected. That is way more functions were introduced in the steering wheel. Nowadays, there are multitask keys, located on the left and right sides, so they can be activated by the driver’s thumbs.
