It comprises five provinces: Pinar del Río, Artemisa, La Habana, Mayabeque and Matanzas, it also includes Isla de la Juventud special municipality. Among its peculiarities, It is the seat of the capital of the republic, the famous Varadero touristic peninsula, the Viñales Valley, the Zapata Peninsula, and the Vuelta Abajo region.
