A DIGITAL firm has won plaudits from two charities for its financial support.

A 40,000TL donation by Digitech Communication, the Cyprus distributor for Digiturk television, will benefit some 60 children who are in care at the SOS Children’s Village in Lefkoşa.

The donation will pay for a one-year programme involving children up to the age of 15 and will also contribute to career guidance with the purchase of such things as educational material for use in lessons, clothes, pocket money during national holidays and enabling children to attend cultural and arts activities.

Speaking to Cyprus Today, Cemil Hafız of the SOS Children’s Village said: “This is very important aid that we have received and just like every donation it will be used for the benefit and development of the children.”

SOS board member Buğra Akter drew attention to expanding activities at the village which need constant contributions from the public and from businesses, and thanked Digitech officials who each were presented with a plaque of appreciation.

General coordinator of Digitech Hasan Çerkez said: “We closely follow the work of SOS and wanted to contribute to development of the children who are our future.”

Meanwhile the company has also received a thank-you plaque for its help in raising funds for the Kemal Saracoğlu Foundation for Children With Leukaemia and the Fight Against Cancer. The presentation was made to Mr Çerkez by foundation coordinator Övgü İnce for the company’s sponsorship of some 3,000 A5sized notebooks. In a choice of three colours, the notebooks had been specially designed by artist Rukiye Ulusan and are on sale as Christmas and New Year gifts in aid of the foundation.

“We would like to thank Digitech Communication for its help to raise funds for our foundation which since its establishment has been making great efforts to help children and their families who are fighting cancer,” said Mrs İnce. “As a charity, we rely on contributions such as this.”

Mrs İnce added that Digitech’s sponsorship was “an excellent example of social responsibility” by a business.

The notebooks, priced at 10TL, are still on sale alongside other charity products including Telsim Vodafone-sponsored red “thermos” flasks, priced at 25TL, in addition to cotton bags and mugs costing 20TL.

Products can be purchased from the foundation’s headquarters in the capital or by calling (0392) 227 0616/17.
