In 2016, 86-year-old Clint Eastwood directed this account of an extraordinary event which turned veteran pilot Chesley Sullenberger into an international hero. Colliding with a flock of Canada geese burned out the engines of his US Airways plane after take-off from LaGuardia airport, New York. He could try to glide to a nearby airport or put down in the Hudson.

Eastwood shows what might have happened in a dream sequence that has haunted the pilot’s sleep. His plane becomes a fireball over Manhattan and crashes amongst the skyscrapers.

Tom Hanks plays Sullenberger with cool charisma and Aaron Eckhart is his wisecracking co-pilot Jeff Stiles. Laura Linney plays Sullenberger’s wife.
