The critics promise you will not be bored.

Aliens invade Earth and overrun Europe. Tom Cruise is a timid guy pitchforked into frontline action. The Yanks invade the Normandy beaches and in stirring action scenes our Tom reluctantly wades ashore. He is killed, but that is not the end of him or the movie.

Tom wakes up in bed on the morning of the previous day and relives every event up to his death. It’s a re-run of Groundhog Day, where reporter Bill Murray relived the same events until he got things right.

Emily Blunt plays a seasoned warrior who has been down this road herself. These crafty aliens play tricks with time and Emily advises Tom on how to escape this lethal cycle. Got that?

We don’t understand the concept of time, so don’t worry about what is going on. It might be tosh but it’s convincingly well done. Doug Liman directed in 2014 from an original Japanese sci-fi yarn by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

Empire magazine said: “A playful and frantic science-fiction twister which mimics the best while offering something fresh and, most importantly, thrilling.”
