In 2001, Halle Berry won the Oscar for Best Actress as the waitress who is drawn to Billy Bob Thornton, unaware he is the prison guard who escorted her late husband to the electric chair.
As if that’s not jinxed enough, there are other obstacles to this damaged pair getting together. Thornton’s father is Peter Boyle, a retired prison guard and a sour racist in a wheelchair.
High quality acting all round, including Sean Combs as the convict executed after 11 years on death row.
Swiss director Marc Forster deftly handled a sensitive script by actors Milo Addica and Will Rokos.
A Monster’s Ball is a traditional English expression meaning a condemned man’s last meal before his execution.
