ANOTHER sci-fi classic given the blood transfusion of a new cast.

For 35 years, the crew of Starship Enterprise have patrolled the universe of the future, now its all change for the old guard. Beam me up Scotty! This 2013 space spectacular is the 12th outing for seasoned astronauts Captain Kirk, Second Officer Spock et al, now given fresh faces.

Chris Pine is relaxed as the iconic Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto is suitably cryptic as the pointy-eared Spock.

A newcomer is the duplicitous John Harrison, a rogue Starfleet officer who turns into an intergalactic terrorist, prompting the Enterprise crew to track him down to the planet Kronos where the Klingons are on the war path. Harrison is effortlessly played by Benedict Cumberbatch, fresh from his success as Sherlock Holmes on television.

JJ Abrams enjoyed himself directing this revived space opera.

Radio Times said: “In this thrill-a-minute blockbuster, Benedict Cumberbatch is sensational. Abrams pulls out all the action stops, beginning in full-throttle adventure mode and sustaining the warp-speed spectacle all the way to an epic finale in San Francisco.”
