Efrar to feature a women-only race

-

A WOMEN-only race is to be a new feature of the Esentepe Fun, Run and Ramble (Efrar) 2018 when it takes place on Sunday, April 15 in aid of the Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips).

Organisers said that after experiencing an increase in female runners over the last two to three years, they had decided to introduce a 5km event especially for them, with a trophy being presented to the winner.

The usual 2km, 5km and 8km categories remain open to both men and women who wish to walk, jog or run.

Announcing the change, the Efrar committee said the new category was “designed for the more serious runners, so now is the time for the ladies to get in training and ensure that they not only get a medal but have a chance to win a trophy”.

Committee head Mary Watson urged more women to take part and compete for the honours.

“This event is designed for running and not walking, although everyone is free to choose whatever they wish to do,” she said.

“We hope more women will be encouraged to take on the race as we have seen a lot more of them becoming involved over the years.

“We are aware that a number have started training for it, either individually or in a group, which we are very excited about.”

Those wishing to take part in any of the categories can register for 25TL on the day of the run, or obtain a sponsorship form, which will be available soon, to raise more funds for the cause.
