The Theresa reshuffle

-

FORGIVE me, but when did a prime minister forming a government, or selecting a Cabinet, ever involve doing anything other than picking the people most capable of doing the job? Never, until now. The tentacles of the social manipulators (it’s those “diversifiers” again) are even trying to reach into 10 Downing Street.

According to them her choice of Cabinet and junior ministers “does not reflect modern Britain”. It’s not “diverse” enough, you see. Her new-look government might be full of people from different religious, ethnic, sexual and social backgrounds but that’s not enough (what utter tripe). I’m surprised Theresa’s self-righteous critics haven’t noticed that the number of ministers wearing glasses are outnumbered by the ones who don’t (give them time). Why should spectacle-wearers be so under-represented? What an outrage! (Tongue in cheek.)

The idea that any government commanding a majority in the Commons, made up of individuals elected by the people (of various backgrounds), isn’t “representative” is the biggest contradiction in terms I have ever heard. What are these “diversifiers” seeking to achieve? A government where 20 per cent of ministers, whatever their capabilities (or 20 per cent of MPs), should be from one social group, simply because 20 per cent of society can be identified as such? Pray how is that to be achieved without distorting free choice?

Could it be that the “diversifiers” would prefer a committee of like-minded “liberals” (who know best, of course) to appoint ministers and MPs, thereby ensuring “balance” is maintained? Thank goodness this madness has not infected Theresa May (yet?).
