Antalya seminar focuses on the future of sport in the TRNC
THE future of sport in the TRNC was debated at a seminar in Antalya organised by the Cyprus Turkish Sports Writers’ Association (KTSYD).
Sponsored by mobile phone provider Telsim, the Sports Vision Education Seminar took place in the Miracle Resort Hotel and was divided into three sections: The Sports Writers’ Millennium Journey, Being A Woman in the Media and The Use of Social Media and its Effects on the Public.
Speaking at the opening, KTSYD chairman Çelen Oben highlighted the importance of having a vision of utilising technological advances in reporting and commenting on sport. Also present was Turkish Sports Writers’ Association chairman Oğuz Tongeşir, who said both associations were “working together and doing a great job being united and in solidarity”.
Speaking first on the “millennium journey” of sports writers were journalists and former KTSYD chairmen Hasan Hastürer and Songuç Kürşad, the head of the sports department at Cyprus Today’s Turkish-language sister newspaper, Kıbrıs.
KTSYD education officer Çilen Ulusoy, TRT Radio sport presenter Başak Koç and BeIn Sports commentator Şükran Albayrak all spoke about being a woman in the sports media, emphasising the difficulties they often encountered and condemning gender discrimination.
Lastly, a presentation on social media and the use of audio and visual technology by sports writers was presented by KTSYD deputy chairman Burhan Gürkan, BeIn Sports sports analyst Önder Özen, TRT sports commentator and Fanatik newspaper writer Cem Dizdar and NTV sports commentator Mert Aydın.
