Rev has proved he’s competent

-

I HAVE to write in defence of your journalist Rev Walker (Cyprus Today, December 23), who was castigated by an anonymous Rangers supporter last week.

Having lived in a Rangers area of Scotland for 40 years I feel I am best placed to answer his criticisms. For a kick-off, as a Scot, he should know that “Rev” is NOT a man of the cloth but a common Scottish name, short for “Revers.” As for his journalistic qualifications, I’m pretty sure that 12 years or so of keeping us all abreast of sporting matters in his unique style has proved what an able writer he is. He mixes his sporting observations with his own brand of wry humour, which keeps the Girne folk on their toes whenever he’s around.

As for the “Great” Rangers team you support, I note they have fallen on hard times since the glory years of McCoist, Souness and Gascoigne.

As for your comments regarding the “mob” aspect of his article in reference to the Old Firm match, it was only a light-hearted jest which goes both ways in Glasgow prior to these big games.

I think you should lighten up a little and not get so uptight at this “slur” on your team.

I’ve been in Glasgow many times on these days and seen the “mob attitudes” of both sets of fans. ’Twas always thus and evermore shall be so.

Try not to take life so seriously pal.
