Congratulations Gönyeli on building cycle lanes
I AM writing to praise Gönyeli Municipality for its work in laying cycle lanes in Gönyeli. For the past month I have been delighted to see workers laying the blue paving along the high street on Belediye Bulvarı.
The lanes carry on all the way to Gönyeli village up to the old Gönyeli-Girne road as well as the GönyeliGüzelyurt main road, which is separated from the main road. Cycling on the latter lane, I really enjoyed using it and felt very safe. I look forward to using all these routes once they are finished.
For the past two years, since moving to the neighbourhood, we have seen some positive developments in the area: speed bumps, pavements, double yellow lines, street lighting and new shops. We congratulate Gönyeli Mayor Ahmet Benli for his efforts in making the area a more pleasant place in which to live. However, I want to raise my concern about the fast rise of apartment buildings filling up empty bits of land. I sincerely hope that some of these spaces will be saved to create more green areas which are seriously lacking in our country.
There should be a healthy balance in developments and I trust that my mayor is sensitive towards these issues.
