Careless drivers are terrifying
IT WAS saddening to read the story in this week’s paper about deaths that have already occurred in the first month of 2018 due to traffic accidents (Cyprus Today, January 20).
It is terrifying to see how carelessly people can drive, whether the vehicle is a car, motorbike or even a bicycle.
The situation seems to be getting out of hand and nothing is being done about it while the number of fatalities increases. Some of these terrible drivers also include elderly people who are unaware of how badly they are driving but continue to do so despite warnings they receive.
Not long ago, I was driving down a very narrow road, which usually is not narrow but was made so because of the number of cars parked where they were not supposed to. Across from me, just in time, I realised a car was coming straight towards me and I had just enough time to move over, although the elderly lady driver still managed to hit my mirror. Thank God she did not hit me head on.
I think a strict inspection procedure should be introduced, with everyone holding a driving license having to take a test for a second time.
