Digem, EMU snatch victory in handball final

THE final of the TRNC Handball Federation’s Derviş Mişon Remembrance Tournament saw the Digem team emerge as champions in the women’s category while Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) were victorious in the men’s.

Digem had previously beaten Cyprus International University 25-27 in the women’s championship game while EMU won 22-27 against Gençlik Gücü in the male’s final match.

Trophies and medals were presented at the end of the tournament. Mr Mişon was a legendary Turkish Cypriot sportsman who was born in Lefkoşa on May 11, 1978, and who graduated with honours from the Architecture Faculty of Near East University. He loved football, billiards and spear-fishing. Having completed his master’s at Girne American University he undertook many architectural projects.

The TRNC was shocked when he died while spear-fishing on August 8, 2004.
