Grand raffle, auction aids primary school
A GRAND raffle and auction at Jessic’s Bar in Karşıyaka has raised an additional 5,290TL to help improve educational facilities at Karşıyaka Primary School. The packed event on Friday last week began with a weekly “Irish Bingo” session followed by a raffle with prizes that included three large hampers of food and drink. A total of 14,050TL has now been raised over the past 10 weeks by the community initiative, enabling five laptops and a projector to be ordered for use in an interactive English-language library room that also houses donated books worth some 1,000TL.
“We have done very well to date and support for the project has been so good that we have already been able to order some equipment to improve school library facilities,” said project group member Malcolm Mitcheson.
“After much-needed building work in the library room, which is to start during the school holidays, we hope to hand over the educational equipment in February.”
Project member Amanda Fiora added: “We are receiving great support from customers at Jessic’s Bar for a project that will be ongoing for as long as we can contribute to the needs of the school.”
