Bookshop packed out for launch of Joshua’s Woodland Adventures

-

EAGER customers braved the cold and the rain to turn out for a children’s charity book launch at Karakum’s Best Seller bookshop on Tuesday, which raised 1,500TL.

They got their hands on 300 copies of the English-language publication, Joshua’s Woodland Adventures, written by former Çatalköy resident Bill Haley, BEM.

Cash raised from the sale of the books will be channelled into funding a Turkish translation of the story, to be handed out to local schools and disadvantaged children.

“The small shop was packed out from 10.30am with a non-stop stream of customers who came in cold and wet and received hot drinks with gratitude,” the book’s illustrator Pam Schofield said.

“I was signing and dedicating books when requested and the atmosphere was very upbeat, with lots of positive responses to the book.”

She added that stocks of prints of her illustrations had sold out but could still be ordered and thanked Deborah Burdess for hosting a “very successful” event, where many customers donated more than the recommended minimum price of 35TL.

Mr Hayley was unable to attend, however, due to ill health but former Children in Need Foundation supporters of the project, Mally and John Torris and Laurence Floyd, turned out in support.

Copies of the Joshua’s Woodland Adventures can be bought from the Karakum and Alsancak Best Seller book stores.
