Whisky Jack: 105-year-old record-breaker who still goes abseiling

-

ABSEILING is a daunting challenge at any age — but it’s especially impressive when Jack Reynolds from Hollingwood, Derbyshire does it, given he’s 105.

The incredible OAP, who also holds the record for being the oldest person in the world to ride a rollercoaster, successfully completed three trial abseils, despite the fact he uses a trolley to walk.

Jack, aka “Superman” to his family, has just a few small secrets to his good health.

Of course, there are the classics of keeping active, getting fresh air and being surrounded by loving family.

But the other key part of his routine is. . . whisky.

“He has a whisky in his tea every morning and two shots of Grouse in a glass with lemonade at night and swears by it,” youngest daughter Jayne Goodwin, 57, said.

“If we’ve got a cold or anything he straight away gives us a whisky, that’s his medicine and it’s not done him bad.”

Dad-of-four Jack, who was born in the same year as the Titanic sank, also became the oldest person to do the Ice Bucket Challenge at 102 years old.

He wasn’t fazed as he had the freezing bucket of water tipped over his head while wearing nothing but Union Jack underpants.

To mark his 104th birthday, the former railway plate-layer got his date of birth and “Jacko” inked on his right arm.

In the same year, widower Jack also became become the world’s oldest person to fly in a vintage Tiger Moth aircraft in Retford, Nottinghamshire.
