Burns Night events start this weekend

-

BURNS Night will be celebrated in the TRNC this weekend with two events to mark the birthday of the Scottish bard.

Popular visiting musician Graeme Mackay and his “Travelling Scots” promise an evening of “Burns and Dance Mayhem” with the Cyprus Caledonian Society at Alsancak’s Denizkızı hotel today from 7pm.

Tickets are still on offer from the offices of Alsancak firm FMA priced at £55 or £50 for members of the Cyprus Caledonian Society.

The Inverness band also promises bagpipes and music at a Burns Night dance and dinner tomorrow at the Montenegro’C Sports Bar and Restaurant in Karşıyaka.

The event will feature a traditional haggis menu from 3pm priced at 30TL a head and music from 5pm until late.

Meanwhile Mr Mackay has given new dates for the island’s first Scottish music festival.

The button box accordion player and band manager said that his Island Fling Festival, which had been slated for April at the Denizkızı hotel, has been rescheduled for the autumn, possibly in October.

The three-day festival of contemporary and traditional Scottish music was first announced in January 2017 but was postponed due to “supply chain logistics”.
