Eagles stay top after Mağusa Türk Gücü win

LEFKOŞA-based Yenicami beat Mağusa Türk Gücü 2-1 at home to continue leadership of the K-Pet Super League following its winter break.

The goals for Yenicami came in the 63rd minute from Tansel Ekingen and in the 84th minute from John Ebuka while the single Mağusa goal was netted by Yasin Kurt from the penalty spot in the 26th minute.

Meanwhile, the capital’s Gençlik Gücü beat Küçük Kaymaklı 2-1 last Sunday. The winning goal came from a header in the 15th minute by Mamadou Lamine with Gençlik’s second scored in the 57th minute by Ndue Mujeci. Küçük Kaymaklı’s only goal came in extra time via a header from Uğur Gök.

Bostancı-based Yalova beat İskele’s Gençler Birliği 2-1 with sports commentato­rs proclaimin­g: “Yalova has come to their senses.”

Home team Yeni Boğaziçi was

beaten by away team Lefke 2-0 with the two goals being scored in the 78th and 79th minute by Victor Okah Baniface — who was declared man of the match.

It was a heavy defeat for Ozanköy, who lost to GAÜ-Çetinkaya 4-0, with commentato­rs saying Çetinkaya “started fantastica­lly” in the second half of the season.

The dramatic game saw two goals scored via a penalty in the 30th minute and in extra time by Hüseyin Kayalılar.

Other goals came in the 48th minute by Sercan Demirman and from the newly-transferre­d David Solomon in the 79th minute.

Girne’s Doğan Türk Birliği lost to away team Merit Alsancak Yeşilova 20, with a penalty scored in the 24th minute by Lua Lua and a 86th minute goal by Mejdi Direniş.

Yenicami leads the league with 33 points followed by GAU-Çetinkaya on 31 points. In third place is Binatlı (29 points), Doğan Türk Birliği fourth (28 points) and Küçük Kaymaklı fifth (25 points).

The closing game of the 16th week of the league was played on Monday night between Binatlı and Baf Ülkü Yurdu which ended in a 1-1 draw. Binatlı’s goal for was scored in the first minute of the game by John Bello with the equaliser coming from Joseph Obidiaso in the 89th minute.
