YOU ARE guaranteed to smile somewhere at a go-getter TV producer’s frantic efforts to keep the peace between warring presenters on a breakfast television show. Rachel McAdams is a bouncy, arm-waving bossy-boots, hired to rescue Daybreak, the lowest-rated breakfast show in New York.

Regular presenter Diane Keaton wears a permanent smile and would kiss a frog’s backside if it made her look good on the box. Rachel’s answer to the ratings crisis is to arm-twist grumpy veteran reporter Harrison Ford into co-anchoring the show.

Hard news man Ford is a former war correspondent who dislikes the smarmy, fake familiarity of breakfast telly. He’s got a point there.

The contrasting presenters prove a lively mix in front of the camera. Their rivalry is so intense they fight over who gets to say goodbye to the viewers.

Roger Michell directed in 2010 from a script by Aline Brosh McKenna.

Empire magazine called it: “A breezy confection. It delivers grown-up laughs with fizz and charm to spare. This is an assured, likeable comedy. Ford is as good as he’s been in ages, but the stand-out is McAdams. If there were any justice, the movie would send her stellar.”
