Double staging of kids’ musical
A COLOURFUL musical play for youngsters over the age of six launches at the capital’s Atatürk Cultural Centre with twin performances at 11am and midday today.
The comedy Turkishlanguage family show by Erdoğan Kavaz tells the tale of a youngster and the consequences of his attachment to his electronic tablet. Performances of Tabtab’s Unexpected Adventure feature actors Kurtuluş Altaylı, Fuat Zorali and Pınar İnandım and will be repeated at 11am and midday on Thursday and Saturday, February 15 and 17, at the same venue.

A LONG-awaited exhibition of photographs submitted to the 27th State Photography Competition last year is to launch at the Atatürk Cultural Centre on February 27 at 6.30pm after the show was postponed in December.
The exhibition can be visited until March 2, from 8am to 4pm Monday to Wednesday and on Friday, and 8am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 5.30pm on Thursdays.
A spokesman for the Cultural Office said that the show had been delayed while the new government settled in.
A total of 49 photographers submitted works to the annual competition which offered cash prizes for black-andwhite and colour shots on a free theme or on that of Lifelong Learning. LATIN music lovers and dance schools are invited to a free-ofcharge concert at the capital’s historic Bedestan this month, featuring home-grown talent from Estrellas Latinas de Chipre
Originally known as Latino Turco when the band formed in 2001, the orchestra reinvented itself last year with a new name and the addition of more local musicians and dancers, including expat-favourite saxophonist Ivan Lavrentev.
Performances last year included an October appearance at the eighth Beşparmak Festival of Art and Culture in Çatalköy and their more recent performance at the Merit Royal Hotel last month.
The 10-man orchestra features Arkın Sayar on vocals with maestro and guitarist İbrahim Çetiner, flautist Mehmet Sakarya, trumpet player Gökhan Açıkgöz, trombonist Ahmet Altay, bass guitarist Hüsnü Doğacan and “Ivan the Sax” Lavrentev.
Former Casablanca Bar entrepreneur and reggae singer Sonero Öncal joins in on conga drums with brother Serhan on bongos and cajón drum and Latin dance star Tigin Aytaçoğlu on tres, a guitar-like instrument of Cuban origin.
The Bedestan concert starts at 8.30pm on Wednesday, February 21 and early arrival is advised. AN “OPEN mic” night and exhibition of art by the capital’s youth is on offer tonight at the Bedestan in the heart of the walled city.
The Lefkoşa Youth Association show opens at 7.30pm promising to showcase participants’ talents with five- to 10minute spots of live poetry, comedy and stories against a backdrop show of artworks.
A spokesman for the association said: “Come and join us. We can be your voice. Let’s be the voice of youth.
“The power of art is eternal and these days we need it more than ever. If we want to be the artists of tomorrow, let’s wake up, not stop, sit around or stay silent!”
The recently formed youth group aims to get young people together for entertainment and thought-provoking debate. Refreshments will be provided and entry to the 7.30-11.30pm event is priced at 10TL.
