Sylvia seeks sponsors for Efrar weight loss challenge
NEWLY cancer-free Sylvia Clarke is looking for sponsors for a two-stone weight loss, to raise money for the Esentepe Fun, Run and Ramble (Efrar) 2018 campaign in aid of the Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips).
The Bahçeli-based “swallow”, who divides her time between North Cyprus and the UK, was diagnosed with breast cancer last year but has since been given the all-clear.
Now she is determined to lose the weight she gained while working as an account manager at the UK Department of Work and Pensions and as a development chef providing recipes for leading supermarkets.
“I was sitting down all day and it was a large office, which meant lots of birthdays . . . and cream cakes,” she told Cyprus Today.
A mother of two and grandmother of seven, Mrs Clarke said she was taking her weight loss campaign “very seriously” by controlling food portions since returning to the TRNC after a Christmas break in the UK. Losing weight is becoming a new interest in addition to her usual hobbies of zumba, line dancing, water aerobics and craft activities. Describing her feelings when diagnosed with breast cancer, she said: “I never thought ‘why me?’ and I didn’t get really upset about it. So many people get cancer these days . . . you just have to deal with it.”
