Straight from the heart
ROMANCE was in the air on Valentine’s Day — and it helped to raise funds for one local charity.
Among events last Wednesday was a dinner at Küçük Erenköy’s Joya Bar and Bistro which raised almost 2,000TL for the Esentepe Fun, Run and Ramble (Efrar) campaign in aid of the Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips).
Some 30 people turned up to the specially decorated venue which had arranged heart-shaped balloons and red flowers on each table and played romantic background music.
A raffle during the evening raised 450TL, while Joya owner Saeed Ahmed gave 350TL from meal proceeds and property managers Paul and Chris Farmer donated 1,000TL to make a grand total of 1,800TL collected on the night.
Chairman of the Efrar 2018 committee Mary Watson said: “It was a really enjoyable evening with a great atmosphere . . . Saeed and his team did us proud.
“Our thanks go to all the Joya staff, to Paul and Chris Farmer
and everyone who came along to support us.” Valentine’s Day also saw a romantic night at the SeaBreeze restaurant in Esentepe when Andy Reay sang love songs for guests as they tucked into a three-course dinner.
“It was a beautiful night spent with our customers who later in the evening took to the dance floor while Andy sang romantic numbers,” said SeaBreeze owner Mehmet Demirtaş.
“Hopefully after next month, as the weather improves, we will host more such events.”
Couples also flocked to various venues in Girne’s Lord’s Palace Hotel, where a highlight of the evening in the Kömür Steakhouse was a marriage proposal that was greeted with cheers from other customers.
Diners at the steakhouse and hotel’s Ocakbaşı and Khephal fish restaurants and the rooftop Sky Lounge and Bar received a complimentary bottle of wine, while live music was provided by Yağmur Özerem and there were performances by tango and salsa dancers.
