A LAUGH-out-loud comedy about a no-holds-barred campaign for a seat in the US Senate. A muck-raking send-up of American politics that rings sadly true.

Will Ferrell convinces as Cam Brady, a womanising Democrat seeking re-election against Republican Marty Huggins, alias Zach Galifianakis, tourism director for the small town of Hammond. Huggins is an unwitting catspaw for crooked business brothers played by Dan Aykroyd and John Lithgow, who plan to sell the town to the Chinese.

In increasingly violent confrontations, Cam accidentally punches a baby in the face when he aims a blow at Marty. Cam goes public with his seduction of Marty’s neglected wife and his opponent shoots him in the leg. After that, it turns nasty!

Outrageous satire but only a tacked on Hollywood ending feels out of place. Cameo appearances by commentators Wolf Blitzer and Piers Morgan lend authenticity.
