A CLASSY gangster chase movie with lots of action and violent twists and turns. If you think you’ve seen it before, you have!

It’s a blow-by-blow remake of director Sam Peckinpah’s 1972 classic starring Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw. This thriller is worth another look.

In 1994, director Roger Donaldson used Peckinpah’s old script, but had Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger in the lead roles as ace bank robber Doc McCoy and his wife Carol. Basinger shines but Baldwin lacks McQueen’s steely panache.

Acting honours go to cold-eyed James Woods as a crooked wheeler-dealer who gets Doc out of jail to organise a major bank heist.

Woods has been making whoopee with Carol while Doc was in clink, so the stage is set for double-crosses in all directions.

Michael Madsen is a hard-nosed killer on Wood’s pay role.

Time Out called it: “Hot and sweaty, with salty dialogue, exciting shoot-outs at regular intervals and plenty of suspense between.

“A treat to see the double-barrelled menace of Woods and Madsen together at last.”
