Superman Returns 7pm beIN Movies Oscars

CRITICS rate this one of the best superhero adventures ever. A love story shares centre stage with yet another of Superman’s efforts to save the world from disaster. The special effects are stunning.

Superman returns from a five-year sojourn in his native planet Krypton to find that the love of his life, reporter Lois Lane, has a five-year-old son and is on the brink of marrying someone else. More than that, his fiendish adversary Lex Luthor is on the rampage again with a real estate scheme that threatens the lives of millions worldwide.

Superman, alias reporter Clark Kent, is played by Brandon Routh, a lookalike for the late Christopher Reeve who originally made the part his own. Feisty Lois Lane is Kate Bosworth and smiley Kevin Spacey has replaced Gene Hackman as the villainous Luthor.

Movie buffs will enjoy echoes of classics such as Casablanca, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Citizen Kane and Titanic. Bryan Singer directed in 2006 from a screenplay by Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris.

Empire magazine gave it five out of five stars: “The most beatific of the superhero’s most magnificent screen incarnation yet. The finest popular entertainment since the Rings trilogy closed. Superman doesn’t fly — he soars.”
