Not too late to register for Big Bird Weekend

- By ANNE CANALP

KUŞKOR’s Annual Big Bird Weekend in the Karpaz peninsula is set for Friday to Sunday May 4-6 offering a B&B stay, boat trip to seabird colonies and two days’ guided birding.

Kuşkor guide and biologist Robin Snape said: “We invite residents and holidaymakers to join our annual weekend of birding which is now in its sixth successful year.” No previous experience is required to join the trip which yields important annual counts and sightings for North Cyprus bird protection.

Mr Snape said: “It’s a great way for novice and experienced birders alike to explore the diversity of sites and birds during spring.

“Binoculars will be available and we will be based in Dipkarpaz boutique hotel accommodation, which will be assigned on a first-come basis.”

The trip is priced for Kuşkor members at £100 for the weekend, or £80 for Saturday night only, and includes Saturday lunch and evening meal and a quiz. Non-members will be charged an extra £10 which includes a year’s Kuşkor membership.

Bookings may be made by phone to 0533 866 2890 or via email to gavin.croucher@hotmail.com, from whom more information may be obtained.

READERS may now watch a great tit and her family online every day for the next few weeks in their Gönyeli garden nest after Kuşkor set up a “great tit cam”.

Kuşkor member and wildlife photographer Olkan Ergüler said the live link showing adults busily feeding their eager chicks could be viewed at www.kuskor.org.
