Appeal to help abandoned dog

- By YASEMIN GÜLPINAR

AN APPEAL has been launched to help Dove, a pointer-cross dog who is being cared for by the Hope 4 Pets (H4P) animal charity after being found abandoned, ill and emaciated.

Passers-by spotted Dove near Lefkoşa’s Atatürk Stadium and H4P offered help after being told how she was “in a terrible condition”.

The dog, who had not been microchipped with details of an owner, was brought to Girne’s Pet Cross veterinary surgery and found to be suffering from leishmania, for which she is being treated while on a high protein diet under the care of H4P member Emma Eminsoy.

H4P chairman Stephanie Harrison-Croft said: “As soon as we took on Dove we appealed for help and hopefully in a few weeks we will be looking for a home for her, although her treatment is indefinite.

“We initially thought her organs would fail to accept the necessary treatment but she was fine considering the state that we had found her in.”

Speaking of cases dealt with by the charity so far this year, Mrs Harrison-Croft added: “The public response to our calls has been amazing since the start of 2018. We have more members who are prepared to help us with animals, for which we are grateful, although we would welcome more to join us.”
