Cancer charity fundraising events continue in Güzelyurt and Lefke

A series of fundraisers organised by Güzelyurt Municipality in collaboration with the Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips) over the past eight months continued at the town’s indoor market, where second-hand clothes were donated alongside unwanted new ones to be sold to meet the cost of medication for cancer patients.
During the day — held under the banner “Send them to recycle and become hope for cancer patients” — a number of games, competitions, illusion shows and mini-concerts for children took place.
Mayor Mahmut Özçınar, who attended with other municipal officials, highlighted the importance of such donations to the association.
Meanwhile, musicians gathered on the Gemikonağı coastal road and sang to people passing by as part of an singalong event organised by local musician Silvan Yaşlı and supported by Lefke Municipality. The initiative raised more than 1,600TL afor the Kemal Saraçoğlu Foundation for Children with Leukaemia and the Fight Against Cancer.
Foundation coordinator Övgü İnce praised the musicians for their “unique” fundraiser, saying: “We thank them all for doing something so different and beautiful, through which they have been a great help for us. Most importantly, we thank Silvan Yaşlı for raising awareness among the community in Lefke about our foundation and its services.”
