Art month at mARTfest

A MARTFEST at Kalkanlı’s Middle East Technical University promises almost one month of arts, music and theatre events, and showcases sculptor Sevcan Çerkez, stencil artist Erdoğan Ergün and a Mozart in Love concert.

The season launches on Wednesday at 8pm with a TRNC Presidenti­al Symphony Orchestra concert featuring pianist Rüya Taner.

The programme includes a cartoon workshop at 6pm on Friday with Bülent Üstün and Yılmaz Aslantürk and a threeday 1.40pm-to-5.30pm ceramics workshop with Vedia Okutan from March 13 to 15.

A Tuesday, March 13 “theatre of the absurd” 8pm performanc­e of Ionesco’s oneact play Frenzy For Two, or More is also on offer from Lefkoşa Municipali­ty Theatre.

Stencil artist Erdoğan Ergün shares his techniques on Saturday, March 17 followed by an original print workshop with artist Gökhan Okur on Monday, March 19 and a three-day sculpture workshop with lifesize ceramicist Sevcan Çerkez from March 20 to 23. All workshops take place at the university art studios from 1.40pm to 5.30pm.

Mehmet Turgut launches a 6pm talk and foyer photograph­y exhibition on March 21 and the season winds up with four 8pm concerts at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Hall. Thursday March 22 features Blue in Green, before a Mozart in Love concert and show on March 26, a Cyprus Turkish music concert by the university choir on March 29 and a closing recital by concert pianist and Turkish State Artist İdil Biret on March 31.
