Thespians in for a treat in Çatalköy

ÇATALKÖY Municipali­ty showcases local and Turkish drama this month at their eighth Beşparmak Theatre Festival, which launches on Tuesday at the Erol Avgören Cultural Centre.

Girne and Çatalköy Municipali­ty theatre launch the season with three 8pm performanc­es of the one-act comedy Minced Meat and Okra in the Pressure Cooker on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Subtitled “a good meal is like a good democracy”, the play sends up “the insensitiv­ity of a bourgeois female coffee culture of empty talk, gossip and fortune telling”.

Children will be in for a treat at 9.30am on Monday, March 12 with a shadow puppet Karagöz show by the Beyarmudu Municipali­ty South Mesaoria Theatre, who also perform their comedy play Nor & Betmez at 8pm.

Tiyatro Kulis visit from Mersin, Turkey, on Wednesday, March 14 for a performanc­e of the romantic comedy Love Analyser.

The Fourth Wall Cultural Associatio­n offer a performanc­e of their two-act comedy Bak Başka — Look, Another — on Friday, March 16 from local playwright Osman Bulun. More children’s theatre is on offer at 9.30am on Tuesday, March 20 with a TRNC State Theatre performanc­e of their play, The Mountain Met the Sea.

The Çorum-based Mask Theatre perform their play Artist Pakize on Friday, March 23, followed by a Güzelyurt Municipali­ty City Theatre performanc­e of the play The Rose Hostel.

The season closes with the comedy, The Little Tiny Kingdom of Karamusa, by the Mesaoria Art and Culture Associatio­n.
