RBL calls out for members for future productions
“ANY drama queens out there?”
That was the appeal this week from the Royal British Legion (RBL) Kyrenia branch Theatre Players, who are looking for new members — both on stage and behind the scenes — for upcoming productions.
The Players said their summer comedy was already fully cast, but one or two male roles, and a few for children, remained vacant for a Christmas production due to be staged in November.
“Any men or children out there fancy treading the boards? Plus there are back stage and production crew opportunities for both the summer and winter productions,” said an appeal.
Jan Marsh, who is heading up rehearsals for the as-yet-unnamed comedy for a threenight run at Alsancak Municipality’s theatre from June 7 to 9, said script, cast, venue and set were in place.
“However ‘theatre’ is so much more than being on stage. It is like an iceberg with so much unseen work behind the scenes. So please, readers, check your diary and step aboard to offer help with, for example, prompt/prop searching/booking office duties/raffle wrapping/putting up posters etc. There is always something to do.”
Meanwhile second-time director Ian Chennell is laying the groundwork for a November 18 to 25 production of Finding Christmas, a musical adapted from Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol — also provisionally lined up for the Alsancak venue.
Mr Chennell said 2018 had provided “new challenges” with the loss of “pivotal cast members and vital production crew”.
“Some volunteers have already identified an interest in involvement but I would request that everyone who wants an opportunity to be involved let me know as soon as possible,” he said.
He urged people not to be “put off” by the musical element, as not all cast members would have to sing, adding: “This is a first for us and is a great opportunity, so don’t delay and get in touch today.”
