Can Gazi awarded the Carrington Shield
BAYRAK Radio and Television presenter Can Gazi has been awarded this year’s Carrington Shield — awarded annually by the Esentepe Fun, Run and Ramble committee for outstanding contribution towards the campaign in aid of the Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips).
It was handed over in a surprise presentation — described by Mr Gazi as “the biggest shock in my whole career” — during his Cup of Conversation show on Thursday, on which Efrar chairman Mary Watson, Sue Steel and Kate Bell were guests.
Mr Gazi, who the committee said promotes the event “at every chance”, acts as interpreter on the day and has participated with his family for the last six years, was a unanimous choice for the award, backed by main sponsor Carrington Group. It has previously gone to fun run founders George Roper and Alex Kennedy, young fundraiser Kai Fletcher and The Abnormals expat entertainment group, who regularly generate money for the cause.
Mrs Watson said it was “great to reward Can for all his support over the years”, adding: “He is such an ambassador for Efrar and we look forward to seeing him at the next fun run . . . on April 15.”
A delighted Mr Gazi said: “I’m humbled by this gesture as I see myself as doing just my job! Thanks to everyone involved and I hope to see all Efrar supporters on the walk and run.”
