‘Speed up Aplıç border opening’

WORK to open a new border crossing at Aplıç near Lefke should be speeded up, President Mustafa Akıncı said.

He and Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades agreed to the new checkpoint almost three years ago, but a 2.5km-long stretch of road on the South side is still not completed.

Paying a visit to the area, Mr Akıncı expressed frustration at the delay, commenting: “A motorway could have been built in three years.”
